Bible Verses That Prove The Church Must Never Be Neutral In The Face Of Tyranny

Many people have argued if the church is supposed to be a neutral ground or not, especially when it comes to the issue of governance. There have been controversies about the stance of the church on social politics and governance.

When the Israelites were oppressed, God always used his servants; the likes of Moses to protest against injustice and oppression of his people especially in the land of Egypt. Even in the new testament, the bible shows that Jesus who the church represents on earth was an unapologetic activist whose core mandate was to liberate mankind.

The entity called Nigeria has been faced with bad leadership and resultant bad governance and many religious leaders have continued to be on the fence, citing governance as politics that they do not want to indulge in.

In this piece, I have been able to highlight some instances in the bible that prove the church must never be neutral in the face of oppression.

This is a thread of Bible verses that prove the church must never be neutral in the face of tyranny;

- Matthew 11:12 “The kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force!”

- Proverbs 31:9 “Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.”

- Proverbs21:13 "Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard."
- Leviticus 19:17 "Let there be no hate in your heart for your brother; but you may make a protest to your neighbour, so that he may be stopped from doing evil."

- Jonah 1:2 "Get up and go to Nineveh, that great city! Then cry out in protest against it, because their evil has come to my attention."

- Luke 9:5 "Wherever they refuse to receive you, as you leave that town shake off the very dust from your feet as a protest against them."

- Galatians 2:11 "But when Cephas came to Antioch, I made a protest against him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong."

These and many more verses emphasize on the dangers of neutrality in the face of tyranny. Take charge today. Your religious leader must speak for you. This is about your welfare, and the Church which represents Christ must be concerned about the flock (you).
